White-faced
Ibis
Photographed at
Discovery Cove, Orlando, Florida Mar 2011
The White-faced
Ibis is a western replacement for the Glossy Ibis. Similar in appearance and
habits, the two species can be distinguished only by slight differences in
coloring of the face and legs.
This Ibis has
glittering bronze feathers all over and has a thin band of white feathers
around its bare red face during breeding season.
They feed on
invertebrates, frogs, and fish. They tend to fly in a straight-line formation
with alternating shallow rapid wing beats and short glides.
